Overall experience was ok. But the portion was not enough. Specially if you do not open yourself to everything that was opened during the tour.

"Not what I was expecting"
July, 2018
I love taking food tours and no matter where I go on vacation, I look for a food tour. I have taken a dozen food tours in 4 or 5 different states. I have also taken several tours with Savory Faire in St. Augustine. I must say that both my husband and myself were disappointed with this tour.
Most of the restaurants on the tour did not even offer water to the people who did not purchase the wine option. We were at one place for almost an hour, sitting outside in the heat, no fans or water to cool everyone off and them we get one shrimp. I am not kidding, one shrimp. And if you liked it, and wanted to order it for a meal, we found out that it isn't offered on the menu. The other places had samples that were actually on the menu and didn't mind telling you about their food. Of all the food tours that I have taken, at the end, you are full. At the end of this tour, we went looking for a place to eat. But not anywhere that was on the tour.
And the guide fit the dismal tour. She never told us where we were going, never mentioned the name of the restaurant, and at one point was asked directly if we could get the name of the next place were we going, she said, "You can ask, but I may not tell you." Was she trying to be funny? We got directions like, "we're going this way for awhile", and "we're cutting across this parking lot". Why not just say that we are going to Restaurant A on B street? Why the secrecy? It was weird.
Then, if someone asked about the history of St. Augustine, her facts we not accurate. There is way too much information about the history, and it is too easily accessible (just go to the visitor center, or the fort, or take a trolley tour, etc) to be incorrect on the city's history.
I will still look for food tours when I go on vacation, but I may be reluctant to try it again in St. Augustine.

Tip: You will do a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes. Also, dress for the weather. It's hot in Florida in the summer and most restaurants offer outside seating, but you will be uncomfortable wearing heavy clothes.

"St. Augustine at Its Best"

The Savory Faire Food Tour is a must for both locals and tourists to experience the Oldest City at its finest. Our tour guide, Ed, presented the history of St. Augustine and its varied foods with a flair that made the entire experience a lot of fun for all. And, no one left hungry.

"The savory food tour"
August, 2016
Going into this tour, I had no idea what to expect. I figured we would get a few morsels of food, and listen to a tour guide run through a script of things to say. However, what we got was way, WAY, more.
First, we get to the meeting spot for the beginning of the tour, check in, and give the receptionist our names(Real or fake) and then we are given complimentary wine and chocolate! Not much of a wine guy, but it was pretty good. Then we waited for the rest of our tour group to get there(one of which was kind of upset about the parking situation, but lets get into that) and once all 8 of us arrived we met Ed and the adventure began.
We set out, heading right down the street towards the Cafe Alcazar, learning a bunch of great and interesting history about the city and buildings from Ed. Once we got to the restaurant, we got to sit at our table instantly and was given some more complimentary wine(I think it was wine, Ed said it was Absinthe or something like that) which was incredible! Then we were given a delicious artisan pizza to sample and to my disgust at first, Escargot. I had never tried it, and never had an intention to try it however after some encouraging I bit the bullet and popped it into my mouth. It was not bad, but it will be something I never try again.
So we set out right across the street to the Old City House Inn and Restaurant for a fantastic looking Goat cheese and Herb grit, with some shrimp in a sauce(sorry, I cannot recall all of what Ed said was in it). I say it looked good because I could not eat it due to a food allergy. Not to be left out, Ed sprang into action and got the chef to whip me up a fantastic cabbage salad topped with Prosciutto. It was incredible, the restaurant was accommodating, and Ed was on the ball.
Next we went to the Ancient Olive which we were allowed to sample some very artfully crafted Olive Oil, as well as a blueberry preserve cream cheese spread. It was incredible. We also sampled some stuffed olives and cured meats as well.
Next we ventured to Athenas where we were served flamed goat cheese and pita bread as well as a gyro with tzatiki sauce.
We then walked across a quaint park that had some historic obelisks and an old fashioned well, and made our way down to Vino Del Grotto. An excellent little winery that served us some of there special Hurricane Wine that they made from different fruit instead of from grapes. It was delicious and refreshing.
And for the finale we ventured into just one of the most beautiful hotels in the city. Casa Monica. The ambiance was spectacular, the staff friendly, and the restaurant(which was named Costa Brava) was amazing! We were served tapas, which was basically a buffet style appetizer bar. There was sauted and marinated onions, olives, stuffed peppers, prosciutto, genoa salami, and much, MUCH more. It was easily one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Ed was a fantastic tour guide, our whole party left happy, and full of not only delicious Mediterranean cuisine but also full of knowledge about the most beautiful city I have ever seen.

"Outstanding Experience with Ed"

Reviewed September 22, 2018 NEW
From start to finish this was a wonderful tour. My two sisters and mother in law booked this tour for a Friday afternoon. To our pleasant surprise it was just the four of us and our tour guide, Ed. It felt like a private tour. Ed was very knowledgeable. Not only about the town and history of Saint Augustine but of food and wine. This was a foodies dream. Ed was also a pleasure to carry on conversations with and knew all the locals on the street. He definitely is well respected in the area. I would only do this tour by requesting him. We stopped first at Cafe Alcazar- wonderful experience. The escargot was amazing and wine pairings were perfect. He took us to other really great, unique hidden gems! Everything was where the locals go. I can’t wait to do this tour again with my husband. Definitely recommend this tour with Ed. Worth every penny.

"Ed made our trip"

Never done a food tour before. No idea what to expect but it sounded cool. Got there early and they offered us drinks and chocolate. Cool. Then Ed showed up. It was us 2 that just got engaged day prior, and a group of 5. Ed made us feel very very welcomed. This is NOT just a food tour. With Ed, it's a food tour for sure, but he gives you a ton of historic information, cool facts and just great general fun conversation. He tells you everything about the food you eat and how to eat it. He also stops a bunch along the trip to point out a bunch of known and unknown historic facts. We don't normally drink in public, but if you like wine or have any questions Ed is the guy to ask. He is a super intelligent guy. We asked him about champagne since we never really drank it. He gave us suggestions and tons of great info about it. Really opened up a new world. One person in our group asked her how long we were married for and when she said we were just engaged the day prior Ed must have taken a mental note, because at the last stop he bought us a small bottle of a amazing champagne to split. That really really topped it off for us. Ed takes his tours personally and I honestly felt the whole group was like a group of friends and family we've known forever thanks to Ed. He does not rush the tour at all. Plan to spend an extra hour or more on the tour because all of his conversations and facts are definitely worth it. Wish Ed did more tours, I'd sign up in a heartbeat to do them. This is definitely a must and we will be back to do this, only with Ed. Amazing.

You must do ! My husband and I have done this tour with friends and family that are visiting at least 5 times. Everyone has loved it. There is no one better than Ed. You must have Ed as your guide. He is extremely personable and a wine, food and history aficionado. He makes the tour so much fun. I have friends that have come to visit and ask if we can do the food tour again with Ed. Don’t miss out. It’s a great tour with so much information on the history of St Augustine along with food in some of the best places. If you decide to have wine accompanying your food it could be a great experience. My husband has found at least 2 brands he experienced that he didn’t know about but loved Try it, you’ll love it
